Types of Satire 

Satire - Is a work the mock or makes fun of a social intuition, social norm, of belief system. Satire can be used to add comedy or sadness to a scene. 

Horatian Satire 

Horatian satire is named after the Greek writer Horace, who was most famous for using it in his writing when making fun of the Roman society. Horatian satire is usually overly comedic, light in tone, and tends to be milder in its critiques. These films are usual about American imperialism, fashion, modern politics. An example of Horatian is in the movie Dr.StangeLove, when this movie came out at the same time as the cold war, much of it humor is focused around the cols war.


Juvenalian Satire 

Juvenalian satire is named after Juvenal who was known for his vicious rhetorical attacks. Juvenalian is used when you want to make the audience angry, Juvenalian can be funny but they are usual used in dramas. For instance in the movie Fight Club it talks about consumer byproducts and toxic masculinity. 




Menippean Satire 

Menippean satire is named after the Greek writer Menippus but little is known about him because majority of his work has been lost. Menippean satire can be vary in tone but its main focal point is in belief or moral attitude. The attitude can be racism, greed, sexism, etc. For instance the movie Jojo Rabbit focus on fascism. In the film Adolf Hitler is presented as Jojo imaginary friend the is a carefree buffoon. The movie Jojo Rabbit also shows how Menippean satire can be slapstick comedy or it can be a tragedy.
