Artist Statement

This year I focused my art around the theme looking inward. I wanted my artwork to reflect inner emotio. So for my film I focus on how we as society strive to be perfect. But we not only strive for ourselves to be perfect, we strive for others to be perfect as well. And this is the most common when it comes to parents. Parents always want what's best for their children, so they put pressure on them to do better because they know they can do better. But sometimes parents can put too much pressure on their children to be perfect. And that’s what my film focuses on. But when I switched to modeling I focused my theme switched to old hollywood. I focused more on Marlyin Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, and Marlone Brando as they were the most notable actresses and actors of their time. 

    When it came to making decisions about how I wanted my work to look. I based it on the message I wanted to send to my viewers. For instance, for my film Perfection lighting and background were key. When it came to the lighting I wanted it to show the process of time but also how everything on the outside seemed to be perfect. To illustrate when I was lighting my sister in the film all the light around here would make her seem holy and perfect. But in all reality the character my sister was playing was someone who only saw other imperfections to hide her own. As I mentioned before, the background was also key to my film. To specify when it came to the character I play in the film, the background was never the same on both sides to show chaos and the inner emotions my character was feeling. For the dress I made, the color I chose was very important. Not only does the color black invoke the feeling of sophistication, but also feelings of sadness and anger.  

    As I wrap up this year's theme I plan on continuing the theme of old Hollywood and taking a further look into the style of Hollywood and the lifestyle that Marlyin Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, and Marlone Brando lived during their peak in Hollywood.
